Live edge living

Some projects allow craftsmanship to flow through an entire space, and this full kitchen and dining room refit was one of those rare opportunities. Designed as a cohesive whole, the project brought together a kitchen island, dining table, and bespoke backsplash, all crafted using live edge wood and resin to create a space that feels both natural and contemporary.

The live edge timber was carefully selected to preserve the raw character of the wood allowing its natural grain, movement, and imperfections to take centre stage. Paired with resin work, each element feels grounded yet refined, balancing organic form with clean, modern lines. The kitchen island and dining table echo one another, creating continuity between cooking and dining while ensuring each piece remains functional, durable, and built for everyday use.

The backsplash is where the design truly comes alive. Framed with subtle side lighting, the live edge wood is backlit to dramatic effect, illuminating the grain and contours of the timber. As the light passes through the resin and traces the natural edge, the wood takes on a new depth, transforming the backsplash into a striking focal point that shifts in character throughout the day and evening.

This project showcases how live edge wood and resin can be used beyond standalone pieces, becoming an integral part of a living space. By carrying the same materials and design language across the room, the result is a dining and kitchen area that feels intentional, immersive, and timeless.

It’s a reminder that when natural materials are respected and thoughtfully designed, they don’t just fill a space — they define it.
